Everyone seems to be hopping on the fitness train. Part of the fitness plan is diet. Now, for those who are disciplined this is easy. And for those of us who love butter, cream, and cheese, it is a completely different story.Recently, I discovered a new type of diet. The raw food diet. If you haven't heard what the raw food diet is, it involves no cooking. Everything is raw. For those of us you don't like dieting, the raw food diet might just be the easiest diet out there for us. With no cooking, and a lot of food preparation, it might cause the lazy dieter to have to start amping up their time in the kitchen. So, what is the raw diet? The raw diet seems to be a mouthwatering organic, nutrient dense, gluten-free way of life. The raw diet basically does not allow food above 102-115°. By eating this way the nutrients aren't cooked out.
It is cheap... sort of
There are no costs, because there is no membership, prepacked food, or meetings to go to. Unfortunately, organic foods are always more expensive at the grocery stores. You can find co-op places on online and order your food and have it delivered. Recently, we found a site that sends you farm grown foods in a box at the start of every week. You don't get to pick what comes in it, but it is only $20 bucks. We then decided to do our grocery shopping around that box. Also if you don't have a lot of kitchen appliances, you need to hit up Macy's. This diet will need a juicer, a blender, a dehydrator, a food processor and sprouting pods.
Like all diets it starts off by detoxing, the detox that is most recommended is to go vegetarian the week prior to detoxing, and then detox on pure juices for three days. Then introduce the raw diet. Skeptical? Try this fresh but sweet recipe... and then go from there:
Growing Salad with Apple
Here is what you will need: 1/2 a cup of green lentils, sprouted
Lettuce, your choice
Diced Red Onion
1 Apple, cubed
2 tablespoons Honey and 1/2 a tablespoon of water
Super easy to prepare. Place the lentils, onion, and lettuce into the salad bowl. In a separate bowl, toss honey water, cinnamon to taste, apple and walnuts together. Then combine the honey soaked mixture into the salad bowl, and toss again.
